Thunderdrome is a new event for Heveningham Concours having been tested in Summer 2020. It is essentially an oval flat-track around a central bowl. Two cars will race each other having lined up on opposite sides of the track. The race is complete once one competitor catches the other. This all sounds fairly straightforward until you you imagine the levels of dust that get kicked up from a raging Ferrari F40 screaming sideways through the dirt.
Horsepower Hill, a timed 1/8 mile ‘drag race’ for owners & guests along the estate’s main drive was launched in 2018. The event, which proved popular with owners & spectators alike, attracts a wide range of classic & contemporary supercars. Other entrants have included an Eagle E-Type Speedster, a Ferrari 250 GTO, a Pagani Zonda, a Lamborghini Huracan and a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse amongst others. Horsepower Hill returns next year along with its paddock and ‘doughnut ring’ where visitors can watch the entrants burning some rubber. Spectators can get up close to the cars track-side and watch all the action in grandstands either side of the main drive.

The Suffolk School of Samba band specialises in the performance of Afro Brazilian percussion and dance, bringing a carnival atmosphere to any event, with Brazilian samba rhythms of Batucada, Afoxe, Maracatu and Samba Reggae. Along with a bit of Cuban Conga, Rhumba and Salsa. Throw into the mix rhythms from Funk, Hip-hop and Jungle, and you end up with a wonderful eclectic sound.
Suffolk Swords are a 15th Century reenactment group based in the historic town of Ipswich. They have members from all around the Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex area and have put on medieval combat displays at many events, shows and reenactment battles. The Suffolk Swords will provide exciting medieval tournaments with armoured knights fighting on foot for a cheering crowd against a backdrop of a 15th Century military encampment. Within their area, as well as combat displays, there is also medieval living history with tents, cooking and even the occasional medieval game or musical instrument being played. The display team will happily talk to the public about the lives of medieval men-at-arms and even let people try out a sword or helmet to get a true feel for medieval arms and armour. There will be opportunities to talk to squires as they arm the knights for the tournament and to archers about the awesome power of the English longbow before each combat display performance, which includes exciting elimination duels, thrilling team matches and chaotic Grand Melees.

An extremely fast watercraft zipping across the lake.
Compose yourself here awhile amongst the beautiful flowers in the Walled Garden. There is a special Suffolk architectural treat too to admire; the crinkle-crankle wall which helps the more sensitive plants to keep warm. There is a Tearoom and brassband area to enjoy. You may even spot a Golden Eagle as happened years back when one escaped the Birds of Prey show!
